Jellyfin alternative

A Jellyfin alternative built as one premium product.

Finetic and Jellyfin both serve media from hardware you control, but they make different product and ownership choices. Finetic focuses on a coherent commercial viewer and administrator experience; Jellyfin remains the stronger choice for open-source freedom and vendor independence.

How Finetic approaches it

Designed as a system, experienced as a product.

The technical depth remains available without turning the normal viewing experience into a server dashboard.

02

Bring trusted Jellyfin state with you

Finetic can connect to a Jellyfin administrator API, map Movies and TV Shows folders as they appear inside each container, scan those files through Finetic’s own catalogue, and preview exact, review and unmatched identities before importing. Existing Finetic state wins by default. Passwords, administrator roles, playlists, ratings and the Jellyfin artwork cache are deliberately excluded.

03

Why someone should still choose Jellyfin

Jellyfin is free and open source, has no Finetic subscription dependency and has a larger established client ecosystem. Finetic is private-source commercial software, its final monthly price is not published, and its native clients have not completed public store release. Those are material differences, not footnotes.

04

Playback should be measured, not assumed

Both servers can select direct or converted playback depending on the client and source. Finetic records its plan facts and observed device history so an administrator can understand and refine a safe path. Compatibility claims should still be tested against real files, subtitles, HDR formats and physical devices.

05

The name does not describe a Jellyfin skin

Finetic Media Server at youngstudio.uk is an independent server product with its own catalogue, PostgreSQL database, authentication, administration, playback engine and clients. It is not the unrelated third-party Jellyfin web frontend that uses the same Finetic name.

06

Run a side-by-side Docker evaluation

Mount the same test library read-only into separate Finetic and Jellyfin stacks, use equivalent hardware and client settings, and record actual startup, seek, transcode, metadata and recovery results. Finetic offers a complete 30-day server evaluation without a card for that purpose.

Product evidence

A distinct server product, not a Jellyfin theme.

Finetic has its own catalogue, playback engine, accounts, administration and PostgreSQL-backed state.
