Legal, copyright and media responsibility

Finetic is media-server software. It does not provide films, television programmes, channels, torrents, download sources or access to third-party streaming catalogues.

The administrator of each Finetic server decides which folders are catalogued, which users may access them and whether a bounded guest link is created. That administrator must hold every permission required to store, process, play, display and share the media involved.

Public legal documents#

The Finetic Legal Centre collects the documents governing the public website, compiled software, clients, evaluation, entitlement service and support:

The specific document governing an activity takes priority over a general summary of the same subject.

What a server administrator must verify#

Before adding a library or sharing media, the administrator should verify:

1. the media was obtained from a lawful source;
2. the intended storage and format processing are permitted;
3. every viewer is within the rights held by the administrator;
4. remote access or guest sharing is permitted;
5. no DRM, encryption or access control was bypassed; and
6. local copying, public-performance and communication rules have been considered.

Owning physical media or paying for a streaming subscription does not automatically grant every possible copying, remote-access or sharing right.

Prohibited uses#

Finetic must not be used to:

• acquire, download or capture media from an unauthorised third-party source;
• circumvent DRM or another technological protection measure;
• operate a piracy, torrent, restreaming or unauthorised commercial hosting service;
• rebroadcast or publicly exhibit media without the required rights;
• share media beyond the permissions held by the server owner;
• distribute Finetic releases, entitlements or installation credentials without authorisation; or
• attack, overload, scrape or evade controls protecting Finetic-operated services.

Guest sharing#

Guest links are deliberately scoped and revocable. The administrator should select the narrowest appropriate title, use an expiry and use limit, protect the link from unintended disclosure and revoke it when permission ends.

These controls reduce accidental exposure. They do not grant copyright or distribution permission.

Reporting a rights concern#

For material controlled by Young Studio, email hello@youngstudio.uk with the subject Copyright notice.

Identify the protected work or right, the exact controlled URL or listing, why the use is not authorised, your contact information, a good-faith accuracy statement and your physical or electronic signature. The Copyright Complaints Policy explains the complete process.

Customer video files normally remain on independently operated Finetic servers. Young Studio may not possess those files or have the technical ability to remove them. A complainant may need to contact the server operator or relevant hosting or network provider.

Privacy boundary#

Young Studio does not routinely inspect private media libraries. The entitlement service receives limited installation and licence information rather than customer video files or household viewing history.
